What is Excessive Weight? What is Obesity? How To Treat Obesity? What Are The Differences Between Treatment Options?

When adipose tissue in our body increases, we first become overweight, and if we gain even more weight, obesity develops.

We distinguish them by evaluating body mass index.

    Body mass index: Body weight(kg) / height (m) x Height (m)

If the body mass index is between 25-30, the patient is diagnosed as overweight and if it is over 30, the patient is diagnosed as obese.

No matter what treatment option is used to treat obesity; healthy and regular diet and adequate levels of physical activity are significant parts.

If weight loss cannot be provided with these, bimodal stomach botox, gastric balloon, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric bypass surgery are the options we have.

Bimodal stomach botox and gastric balloon are procedures after which you can get back to your normal routine on the same day. These procedures are not surgical operations and there will not be any stitches or scars on the body. Sleeve gastrectomy and stomach bypass surgery operations require the patient to stay at the hospital for 3 to 5 days and these operations may leave stitches and scars on the body.

Why Do We Gain Weight? Why Can’t We Maintain Weight Loss?

The basic reason underlying our weight gain is to spend less energy than we take. This means we either take excess calories or we do not burn off enough calories. As long as we try to fix this imbalance with shock diets, we affect our basic metabolic rate in a negative way. In this case, we regain the weight we lost with an increased amount.

What Is The Most Important Conception To Lose Weight?

The most important part is sustainability. If you cannot maintain the diet program and physical activities to lose weight for a long time, the yo-yo principle emerges. You get into a vicious weight loos-weight gain diet circle that is very tiring.

What Are The Differences Between Bimodal Gastric Botox And Gastric Balloon?

Both the Gastric Balloon procedure and the Bimodal Gastric Botox procedure are endoscopic procedures that take approximately 15 minutes. In the gastric balloon procedure, the balloon is placed in the stomach and the purpose is to leave less room for food in the stomach so the balloon creates the fullness feeling in the stomach and thus the patient eats less and feels satiety.

The balloon is inflated with a blue-coloured liquid that we call methylene blue, so if there is a leak in the balloon, the urine will turn blue and the person will notice the problem. This balloon is available in 3-6 and 12-month versions. It may cause severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting in the first week. If these complaints do not recess in a week, the balloon may have to be taken out. If there is no problem, the balloon is kept in the stomach throughout the time and the person tries to lose weight by eating less. The balloon will be removed endoscopically when the expiration term is met.

Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting are rarely observed for 3-4 days after the Bimodal Stomach Botox procedure. Botox does not take space in the stomach, only affects stomach muscles and hunger hormones, and provides prolonged fullness and loss of appetite. Botox effects will diminish in 4 to 6 months on its own. There is no such procedure as removing the botox.
